Connect a Fire TV or Android TV

Use the built-in browser on a Fire TV Stick or Android TV box to run the CanvasRelay player.

A ~$30 Fire TV Stick is the cheapest way to put a board on a TV. CanvasRelay runs in the stick's browser today; a native app (one-click install from the Amazon Appstore / Play Store) is on the roadmap.

Fire TV Stick

  1. From the Amazon Appstore on the stick, install the Amazon Silk browser (free).
  2. Open Silk, go to player.canvasrelay.app, and pair with the 6-digit code as usual.
  3. In Silk's settings, set the player page as the home page so it comes back after a restart.

Android TV / Google TV

  1. Install a fullscreen-capable browser from the Play Store (TV Bro and similar kiosk browsers work well).
  2. Open player.canvasrelay.app, pair, assign a board.
  3. Enable the browser's kiosk/fullscreen mode to hide the address bar.

Worth knowing

  • Video plays muted-autoplay only — that's a platform rule on every TV browser, not a CanvasRelay limitation.
  • Keep the stick powered from a wall adapter, not the TV's USB port, so it doesn't reboot every time the TV turns off.
