Delete my account vs delete an organization/workspace
Account deletion removes the user identity/session relationship, while organization deletion is an owner-controlled 14-day workspace deletion process; they have different safeguards and billing implications.
What you may be seeing
- A user is unsure which destructive action to use, expects account deletion to mean organization deletion, or expects organization deletion to automatically handle a Stripe subscription.
What usually causes it
- User accounts and organizations/workspaces are separate ownership objects.
- Organization deletion deliberately has a 14-day grace period and locks editing while pending.
- Account deletion can be refused when the user is the last owner of an organization that still has other members.
- The organization deletion UI explicitly tells the owner to handle/cancel subscription billing first rather than assuming deletion is a billing cancellation primitive.
Do this
- Use Settings → Account → Delete account only when you intend to permanently remove your user account and sessions.
- Use Settings → Danger zone → Delete this organization when you intend to delete that workspace's boards, menus, media and screens; type the organization slug to confirm.
- During the 14-day organization grace period, an owner can Cancel deletion to restore writes.
- Handle subscription/cancellation in Settings → Billing before an intended organization deletion; do not treat a data-deletion action as a substitute for billing management.
You know it is fixed when
- The intended object—not the wrong account/workspace—is in the documented deletion state, and billing is separately in the desired state.
Worth knowing
- Do not recommend either destructive action as a troubleshooting step.
