Board vs screen vs player vs device
Use the product terms consistently so editing, publishing, and hardware troubleshooting do not get mixed together.
What you may be seeing
- You are not sure whether a change belongs in the editor, the Screens tab, or the player device.
- A support instruction says board, screen, player, or device and the distinction is unclear.
What usually causes it
- Canvas Relay separates editable content from the endpoint that plays it.
- TV hardware and the Canvas Relay player software are related but not the same object.
Do this
- Board = the editable design/content you build in the editor.
- Scene = one timed or rotating state inside a board.
- Screen = a paired Canvas Relay endpoint in your organization. Assign a board to a screen from Screens.
- Player = the Canvas Relay software running on the TV hardware or computer and receiving published releases.
- Device = the hardware/operating-system detail, such as Roku, Raspberry Pi, Fire TV, Android TV, or a browser mini-PC.
- Publish = create a complete board release that assigned screens can receive. Saving editor work is not the same as publishing it.
You know it is fixed when
- You can identify the board being edited, the screen it is assigned to, and the player/device actually rendering it.
