Roku: prepare, sign in, and play a board

What you may be seeing

• You are preparing, installing, or opening the native Canvas Relay Roku player for the first time.

What usually causes it

• Roku setup differs from browser-class players: it authenticates the Canvas Relay account on the TV and can play only a published Relay Plan.

Do this

1. Current approved testing — install or open the beta/developer build provided by Canvas Relay. The app is not currently available from the public Roku Store.
2. Production Store flow — once the public listing is live: Home > Store/Streaming Store > Apps or Search > Canvas Relay > Add app > Open.
3. In the Canvas Relay web app, create or open the intended board, Save it, and press Publish. Saving alone is not enough.
4. If you use Google sign-in and have no Canvas Relay password, open Settings > Account & security > Set password. Setting one does not disconnect Google.
5. Sign in on-device with your Canvas Relay email and Canvas Relay password—not your Google password. Roku uses no six-digit code. You may also create a Free account there.
6. Choose a published, non-archived board. One available board is assigned automatically; use Up/Down and OK when several are available.
7. If no board appears, publish a non-archived board in the web app, return to Roku, and press OK to refresh.
8. For unattended signage, press Home and open Settings > Theme > Screensaver start time > Disable, then reopen Canvas Relay.
9. Later board publishes require Save and Publish, but do not require another sign-in, pairing step, or Roku app reinstall. Developer-channel updates—and Store updates once the listing is live—update the app binary separately.

You know it is fixed when

• The Roku opens the selected published board and the web Screens page shows that Roku online with the same assignment.
